Summer Crate Project

I finally got something off my summer "Bucket List" completed. Thanks to Mrs. Smithe and Pinterest for this awesome idea to help with my lack of seating at the listening station and my art and reading table. I'm so excited about the seating and storage these crates will provide!

I bought the crates at Target for about $3.  At first I was concerned about their sturdiness since I had seen other teachers who had made them so that the cushion sits on the inside lip of the crate.  These seats were designed so that they sit on the upper rim of the crate.  There is a piece on the inside that is cut to fit exactly to size so that the seat tops do not wiggle or slide.  They are formed like a sandwich:  inner piece, upper piece, 1 inch high density foam, all covered in fabric.  I covered the foam and tops first, and then we brad nailed the lower piece on the bottom, so there are only clean edges and no staples visible for little kindergarten hands.

These seats will be around my art/reading table.  They are covered in "Slicker" material so they can be easily cleaned.
These seats will be at my listening station near my door.  They will provide storage for tissue boxes and extra school materials and supplies.

Something New!

I'm going to try something new!  I love reading and pinning creative and wonderful ideas that other people have, and so I thought I would give it a try for myself.  Part of my purpose for beginning this blog is to document the changes in my classroom and teaching, but part of it is also to share with others.  I hope others find inspiration from what is posted here.
